Southern Charm

Well, we have officially lived here in North Carolina for six months now. Boy, that sure has gone by fast! We have settled for the most part. Once Kevin gets a job, then we can really be settled. We were so afraid when we first moved out here that people were going to give us a hard time because we're from another state, but they have done the total opposite, they have welcomed us with open arms! I have to tell you that southern hospitality is amazing! We've all heard about it, but to actually experience it, is so awesome! It does take a little getting used to though...case in point; people, especially the elderly, will come up to the kids and start talking to them. At first, I was like what is your ulterior motive, but they are genuinely friendly, especially with the kids. A few weeks ago in Walmart, Kevin was trying to get a bottle of Dr. Pepper off the top shelf and this gentleman came over and helped and even apologized because he couldn't reach it either! People out here are just friendly...in the restaurants, grocery store, gas station, at school...and they say yes/no ma'am/sir (we are teaching the kids to say that as well). Church is also a very big deal out here and they ask "Where do you go to church?" over "Where are you from?" We have found a really awesome church that the kids LOVE going to Sunday school. The kids get so excited when we tell them we have the next day. Our Sunday school class has even rallied around us and is trying to help Kevin get a job! It has been so humbling and we are so thankful that we have been blessed with an awesome church!

Curtis' school has just blown our minds as well. The school's secretary stands in the hall and tells the kids "good morning" and gives the kids hugs and tells them she loves them, while she also reminds them to walk on the right hand side of the hallway. The kids that get dropped off have a faculty member come to their car and open the car door for them (they do not want you to just drop your child off without assistance). Even the kids that ride the bus have a faculty member waiting for them when they get off the bus. The kids have to get in line single file, and when the last child is off the bus, the faculty member will walk them into the school. They do the same after school as well. It's all very organized and controlled.

We love the town that we live in, Asheboro. It's the largest town in the county, but it's very small town with lots of hills and trees. The North Carolina Zoo is here in town and it's the third largest zoo in the nation. Curtis' class took a field trip there and it's really neat!

On another note, Curtis starts tee ball and Lauren starts soccer next week, so we will be pretty busy. I can't wait to watch them play!

I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!
